I started off volunteering at local shelters and rescue groups doing whatever I could do to help out. I was the owner of 2 beautiful Doberman's at the time, and when I saw how other people just didn't care about their pets by lack of food, shelter, training and just dropping them off at these groups because they didn't want the responsibility anymore, I felt I needed to do something. I started educating myself, so I could educate the public. I started handling various dog breeds and temperaments in 1999 , In 2005, I became involved in Search and Rescue Training mentoring with a NYS Trooper who taught me hands-on,real life tracking and trailing techniques. He also taught me about animal and people behavior. I furthered my education by attending seminars, learning hands on about the dogs, their drives what and why they do the things they do. I further learned hands-on training, how to properly evaluate canine temperaments, positive motivation techniques, and animal behavior and modification, Now, I continue my training with Dave Carr of Complete Canine , helping people and their pets and consider everyday a new learning experience.
I became a dog trainer because I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to educate pet owners about the importance of dog training, and hopefully reduce the population of strays and surrenders at the humane societies. There is still alot of work that needs to be done, but I feel that I have made some progress, and that's better than none at all.
Animals didn't ask to be here. Some were brought here by breeders, some as accidents. Either way, when we adopt one into our lives, they now become our responsibility to care for and guide them.
